Spelling rules

Rule #1- Drop the e at the end of a word before adding a vowel suffix.
Ex. Exasperate + ing = Exasperating

Rule #2- Omit one l when adding suffixes ending in ll.
Ex. Mourn + full = Mournful

Rule #3- If a word ends in a y preceded by a consonant. change the y to i before adding a suffix, unless the suffix begins with i.
Ex. Glory + ous = Glorious

Rule #4- When a word ends in a consonant that is preceded by a single vowel and accented on the last syllable, double the consonant before adding a vowel suffix.
Ex. Prefer + ed = Preferred

Rule #5- When a word ends in soft-sounding ce or ge, keep the final e when adding suffixes, except the suffix ing
